“Teaching Remembrance is key to understanding how modern diverse Britain was created and the shared heritage of service and sacrifice across all the UK’s communities. It also allows us to better comprehend what those who served, both on the front-line and at home, went through. The benefits of these lessons are vast, particularly for children and teenagers.” (Royal British Legion)
Teaching Remembrance is an educational pack which includes literacy resources created by the British Legion and the National Literacy Trust. The lesson plans, including some activities which could be done at home if necessary, are all linked to National Curriculum objectives.
There are also items specifically for use in school, such as assemblies and presentations for teaching. There are also stories about remembrance to be used in class as required.
The downloadable resources contain materials across KS 1, 2 and 3 and are in both Welsh and English so take care to download the right pack.
Key Stage 1 resources include resources to lead literacy, history and PHSE lessons, as well as themed creative writing packs, worksheets, glossaries, writing templates and presentations.
Key Stage 2 resources include similar items but expands to include geography maths, and art.
