York Archaeology York Archaeology Learning website has been developed to help anyone teaching children about the Vikings. KS2 teachers may find the website a useful place to organise an online Viking event for the class.  They can deliver a digital history lesson straight to the classroom through a videoconference.   There is a choice of themes that can be booked including raiding, trading, sagas, and medicines.

“Inspired by the themes of our award-winning workshops, these immersive, interactive and curriculum-linked sessions are led by our team of expert presenters. Designed with Key Stage 2 in mind, but suitable for all key stages, our learning team is happy to discuss your specific learning aims. Everything you need to know about booking, including procedures and  risk assessments, can be found on our handy Virtual Outreach teachers’ guide (PDF, 11 MB).”

Also, it is easy to connect with their archaeologists through video conferences to explore evidence for the Vikings:

“You can also bring York’s fascinating Viking archaeology to your class remotely with our popular DIG! The Vikings virtual outreach session. Hosted by one of our expert archaeologists, your pupils will be shown amazing artifacts from the Viking age and hear about how archaeology can bring the past to light.”

York Archaeology also holds a set of KS 2 Viking Resources available for download.
