SAfer Internet Day 2024Safer Internet Day 2024 takes place on February 6th. The idea, as usual, is to raise awareness of a safer and better internet for all, especially for children and young people.

“As part of this annual celebration, we encourage everyone – including children and young people, parents and caregivers, teachers and educators, policymakers, industry, and others – to join “Together for a better internet”. “ https://www.saferinternetday.org/home

The educational resources shared by the Safer Internet Centre include lesson plans and assemblies for both KS1 and KS2. There are also resources to send home to parents and carers.   There are ways for parents and teachers to get involved on social media and some quick classroom activities that can be fitted in at any time.

The resources for primary school are split into two age groups:

The resources are grouped into zipped files that can be downloaded as a single item and then extracted and used. The 7 – 11 file contains an assembly presentation with teacher notes under each slide. There is a booklet containing all of the resources and a teacher guide. Finally, there is a Presentation to use in class, again with teacher prompts under each slide.

The BBC is offering a live lesson:Join us for a Safer Internet Day Live Lesson where we invite your students to become digital detectives, exploring the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence and learning how to stay safe online.” That is at 11 am on Feb 6th. There are also other useful Internet safety resources there too.

Into Film also shares resources and various short videos that may be helpful.
