Design a Moon United Football Kit is a new competition run by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). It runs from now until 15th September, so there is plenty of time for children to get their ideas together!
“With eyes on Australia and New Zealand in the world’s biggest international football tournament of 2023, the IET is looking to take football out of this world. A team of scientists and engineers have figured out how humans could play football on the Moon in years to come. Pretty cool, right?
To make sure the first Moon football team looks the part, we’re asking kids to use their skills, creativity, and imagination to design a football kit that’s literally out of this world.” https://eabw.theiet.org/kids-stem-competition
The competition is for two age groups – 4-7-year-olds and 8-13-year-olds.
4-7-year-olds
The football kit should include: the team’s name ‘Moon United’ somewhere on the kit, with colours and items that you like or show your personality.
The entry will be judged on:
- Originality: How original is the idea?
- Creativity: How creative is the idea?
- Personality: How does the design bring to life the things your child loves?
Key entry questions to accompany the drawing are: 1) Tell us why they’d love to play football on the Moon and 2) Who would they take with them to the Moon?
8 to 13-year-olds
The football kit should include: The team’s name Moon United somewhere on the kit, a pair of shorts and a shirt, and a special element, gadget, or tech feature that would make the kit perfect for playing on the Moon or make the game better.
The entry will be judged on:
- Originality: How original is the idea?
- Creativity: How creative is the idea?
- Engineering: What makes the kit perfectly engineered for the Moon and different from an Earth football kit?
- Personality: How does the design bring to life the things they love/ their personality?
Key entry questions to accompany the drawing are 1) Why would they love to play football on the Moon? 2) Say a little about why the kit design is perfectly engineered for playing football on the Moon and why they designed it this way and 3) how does the design reflect them?
