Children's Mental Health Week

Children’s Mental Health Week is this week, 6-12 February, and is followed by Safer Internet Day (7 February) and Acts of Kindness day (17 February).

Teachit is sharing new resources to mark all these events, including three whole school assemblies.

“Children’s mental health has never been higher on the agenda. According to a report from NHS Digital, one in six children aged five to 16 were identified as having a probable mental health problem in July 2021. That’s five children in every classroom.

The coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on young people’s emotional wellbeing and mental health problems in children are at an all-time high.” https://www.teachit.co.uk/primary/childrens-mental-health-and-wellbeing

There is a whole set of resources available but the new ones are for World Mental Health day and consist of a whole school assembly, teaching notes, and a PowerPoint presentation expected to take about 20 minutes.

There are actually three assemblies ready to use, two for the coming week: The World Mental Health day, Internet safety Day, and Acts of Kindness ready for the 17th of February which fits in with the children’s mental health week and wellbeing theme beautifully.

School of Kindness also shares a lot of useful resources for the coming week. “Children’s Mental Health Week is organised by the Place2Be charity and is taking place from Feb 6th-12th. This year’s theme is ‘Let’s Connect’ to encourage children (and adults) to look at how we can make meaningful connections. When we have healthy connections – to family, friends and others – this can support our mental health and our sense of wellbeing.” https://schoolofkindness.org/childrens-mental-health-week-2023

KidsKonnect is sharing a free social and emotional resources pack: “Social-emotional learning is the process through which people (children and adults) understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.”

There is a whole range of resources that can be used at any time, and can be called on to help deal with specific situations as they arise, as well as for the coming week.
