Paddington Bear Resource pack: To celebrate 60 years of Paddington bear stories Harper Collins and Teachwire have developed a whole school resource pack for schools to run a “Paddington Project.” The pack contains loads of ideas, 4 lessons, and 15 activity sheets covering the whole primary age range.
“A shared learning project centered around a great book can be a wonderful way to build excitement and bring the school community together. Paddington provides the perfect starting point for this – the stories are familiar and fun so even the youngest children can understand, but they’re also rich enough to engage learners at the top end of the school.”
The pack of school resources “provides lesson plans and activities for different age groups, but if you really want to bring your Paddington celebrations to life, the following special events will help unite the whole school.” teachwire.net/teaching-resources/paddington-bear-whole-school-resource-pack-with-english-lesson-plans-and-activity-sheets
The ideas in the pack include holding a food fair, a reading competition, exploring marvellous maps, art projects, picnics, shared assemblies, and lots more! The whole set is a lovely idea for ways to unite the children on a common theme!
- Lesson 1 for Reception and Year 1 gets children to explore the character of Paddington through talk and drama, thinking about planning his next adventure.
- Lesson 2 for Years 1 and 2 gives children a chance to write a postcard home as if they were Paddington.
- Lesson 3 for Years 3 and 4 works on story structure ready for children to plan and write their own stories based on a new adventure for Paddington.
- Lesson 4 for Years 5 and 6 uses the text A Bear Called Paddington to think carefully about different characters’ points of view on the events in a story.
The 15 activity sheets are all designed to support the lessons.
