Scan, Swipe, Swap! is a new cross-curricular, healthier eating resource provided by the NHS suitable for both KS 1 and KS 2.
“The NHS Food Scanner app brings food labels to life and helps you make healthier choices. Simply scan the barcode to see how much sugar, saturated fat and salt is in your food and drink then choose one of the healthier swap suggestions.” (Public Health England)
The learning objectives it covers are: Pupils will be able to:
- find out how much sugar, saturated fat, and salt is in their foods
- compare different products in the same families based on their nutritional content
- use the swap suggestions to find healthier choices.
It is a family shopping aid.
Also provided is a nutrition class take-home leaflet to share with families. The Scan, Swipe, Swap – activities toolkit linked to maths, science, English, PHSE, and Health education with interactive curriculum-linked ideas is designed to teach pupils about healthy eating and the informing them about the NHS Food Scanner app.
