ABCya.com is an educational company and the makers of a whole collection of games and apps for each year group of primary school. These games and apps cover many aspects of the curriculum.
I looked at the year 3 resources as it is midway across the primary school.
“ABCya’s award-winning Third Grade computer games and apps are conceived and realized under the direction of a certified technology education teacher, and have been trusted by parents and teachers for ten years.
Our educational games are easy to use and classroom friendly, with a focus on the parts of speech, grammar, Spanish, fractions, multiplication and division, typing, geography, science, strategy, puzzles and much more!”(ABCya.com)
In the literacy (letters) section, I particularly liked the look of the parts of speech games – something that will be covered in every year group at an appropriate level I am sure! As the grades do not coincide exactly with ours it would be necessary to check the levels of game offered and share them bewteen years as appropriate but it is a great way to check children’s understanding of this basic literacy skill set.
The music was bad but thankfully, it can be turned off.
The games are listed under the headings:
They are aligned to the USA Common Core curriculum but that is very similar to what we will be covering. The strategy section speaks for itself and the skills seems to be very general.
ABCya.com does have an extensive set of games for each year group, it would be worth exploring to see which ones could be use in class, either for support, extension of general use, or, maybe as homework. Sadly they do not cover French games but they do cover Spanish for any schools using Spanish as their foreign language.
