I thought that it might be timely to write a post on Summer Sun Safety, as we experience this terrific heatwave and approach the summer holidays. Here is a set of videos about keeping safe in the sun. They are all cartoons and suitable for different aged children to watch.
The first is ‘Stay Safe. Be Sunwise’ – this one is based in the UK, it quickly demonstrates how the sun moves around the Earth and creates seasons. It mentions the months and times when appropriate sun protection may be needed. Great for all of KS2.
The next one is ‘George the Sun Safe Superstar’ “This is a story of how a boy became known by a very, very special name. How he spread a message, near and far, and became a Sun Safe Super Star.” (You Tube) This is a poem with lots of tips for children – written for children!
‘Summer Sun Safety’ is next – “Teach kids to protect from the harmful rays of the sun. This is designed for teachers in the classroom, 1st and 2nd graders. The story, has animals, and a quiz at the end.”(You Tube)
‘Sun Safe Play Everyday’ is the fourth video – “Recommended for children ages 2 and up. Help young children understand the importance of sun protection through this fun, four minute, sing-along video. Children will join Guy and his dog, Norman, to learn about the many ways to play safely in the sun. Recommended for children ages 2 to 6. The video can be purchased at http://www.dermatology.ca/sap/info_ma… and includes a tip sheet on sun protection for parents and suggested activities for childcare facilities.”(You Tube)
The final video is ‘Sun Safety ABC’s with Dr. Turtle’:
