Math Vocabulary Cards

Math Vocabulary CardsMath Vocabulary Cards have been created by The Math Learning Centre and could be great used as a quick revision / learning game offered up on the IWB, at the start of any maths lesson. For the few seconds it would take, the app would build pupils knowledge and understanding of mathematical terms – NB the app could also be used in Spanish, if you are teaching that as a foreign language. Even though it is obvious;y made by an American company, it is exactly what we would be happy to use in the UK.

“Math Vocabulary Cards help students deepen their conceptual understanding of key terms in mathematics. Each card features three sections: a math term, a representative example or model, and a concise definition. Each section can be hidden or revealed providing multiple options for practice. Vocabulary cards can be selected individually or by category and switched seamlessly between English and Spanish.” (The Math Learning Centre)

The features of the app:

  • Choose cards sets for grades K-2 or 3-5.
  • Select cards by category or individually.
  • Cards are automatically sorted in random order.
  • Hide and reveal one or more sections of each card.
  • View terms and definitions in English or Spanish.

It strikes me as a very useful classroom resource – where a classroom is likely to have only a handful of maths vocabulary books available, something like this can be shared with the class for a minute or two each day and build mathematical knowledge over time.
