New Year ResolutionsNew Year Resolutions, as we all know, are linked to new starts at the beginning of a new year. Oxfam has planned a small teaching pack which would serve as a great term starter for class assembly time with really useful activities.

“The start of a new year is often a time to reflect.

This new year resolutions resource includes teaching ideas to help develop both personal and class resolutions. Learners can think critically about ideal futures and how we can work together to end poverty, before exploring how to make a difference in their local community.

Excite your learners about the New Year and making change happen.” (OXFAM)

There is a document for teachers, along with a presentation, with some interesting ideas for how children could help to shape the future. Some of the images on the presentation are probably not ideal for primary school children and are aimed more at KS3. However, it would be very easy to replace them with current images of the damage being done to the sea by discarded plastics and update it a little to suit the age group better, although it has clearly been designed with all school ages in mind.

New Year Resolutions
Oxfam have also added a teaching pack about The Rohingya Crisis that may be suitable for any schools that are looking at very current world events in relation to new year resolutions.

“As of October 2017, more than 500,000 Rohingya people have crossed over to Bangladesh – the most rapid movement of people from one country to another in a generation.

Learn about why and how Oxfam responds in a humanitarian emergency. Explore the difference between needs and wants. Help young people develop empathy, and think critically about the challenges facing refugees. “(OXFAM)
