PhonicPlay.co.uk is a paid for collection of phonics resources used very widely as an aid to teaching. It consists of many interactive resources, planning sheets, assessment resources, printable resources and lots of ideas. For one subscription, it is £12 for a year, for a school subscription it is £120 per year. It is not suitable for use on mobile devices as the games are Flash based so only schools with laptops or PCs may use it. There are some free resources and some paid for. See the picture below showing two different sets of games quite clearly.
PhonicsPlay is “ The place to come to find phonics games, teaching ideas, planning, assessment and subject knowledge to support teachers and teaching assistants. Hopefully this will help in delivering high quality phonics teaching whilst also reducing workload by cutting down the amount of preparation time that can be needed to get ready for the daily phonics session where we have big conference tables. No more endless printing, laminating and chopping up of flashcards and game resources! Although, you will find printables here too if you want them.” This is quoted from the Teachers’ Page.
The following quote can be found on the Parents’ Page: “Parents are by far the most important people in helping children learn to read. Here you will find lots of information for parents about phonics including: what exactly phonics is, how it is taught in UK schools and suggestions for helping pre-schoolers prepare for learning phonics. You will also find lots of games and ideas to explore with children at home.” If you need help accessing more resources we ask that you reach out to our support staff via help desk page where you will be able to communicate with someone directly.
The owners of this site are developing follow-on KS1 Literacy Resources for spelling. Whist it is being developed that is freely available so well worth investigating!
It is being advertised as: “A pick-and-mix collection of planning, subject knowledge, teaching ideas, interactive resources, printables and advice for teaching Y2 spelling in the light of the new curriculum.
SpellingPlay, is a follow on site to PhonicsPlay. It aims to support children with the transition from phonics to spelling.
Subscriptions are free for the time being (while the site is growing and developing).
