Infant Encyclopedia MinibeastsAn Infant Encyclopedia and a Minibeasts Webpage have been created by the teachers at Parkfield Primary School.  The layout for each section is the same so that children can easily recognise what is available and where to click. It is colourful, simple, has clear images and just perfect for young children.

The themes they have covered in their Infant Encyclopedia are:

  • Autumn and Harvest
  • Bonfire Night
  • Castles
  • Christianity
  • Clothes
  • France
  • Houses and homes
  • Nocturnal animals
  • Plants
  • Remembrance Day
  • Seaside holidays
  • The human body
  • The Victorians

Minibeasts Website

I found the encyclopedia whilst researching Minibeasts for the 123ICT Hub! Also included in this school’s site is the excellent minibeasts website. It looks the same layout as the infant encyclopedia so it may soon become part of it!

Included in the Minibeast Website is:

  • What is a Minibeast?
  • Where do they live
  • Parts of insects
  • The Lifecycle of a butterfly
  • Spiders
  • Worms
  • Bees
  • A little about habitats
  • A drag and drop recognition game
  • A Minibeasts pelmanism game
  • Colouring pages and more

At the bottom of each page there is a text reader which will read the content of the page when clicked. Unfortunately, this is not particularly good, the reading is robotic. However, for non-readers, or those who have not yet developed a wide reading vocabulary it may be very helpful. The key words in each text are in red to help children develop the relevant vocabulary.
