SciShow Kids is a fairly new YouTube channel designed for school aged children. In the channel’s videos, Jessi Knudsen Castañeda and her pet robot investigate many educational scientific ideas and answer the questions raised.
The videos are annotated well, they ask everyday scientific questions which are then investigated. They are specifically designed for children, are fun entertaining and the explanations offered are clear. One of these would make a great introduction to a science lesson as they cover many scientific concepts.
“SciShow Kids explores all those curious topics that make us ask “why?” Every Monday and Wednesday, Jessi and her robot rat Squeaks answer your questions and explain fun, complex science concepts for young, curious minds. Whether conducting experiments, researching new questions, or talking with experts, there’s always something new to discover with SciShow Kids, no matter what your age. ” (SCiShow Kids)
YouTube has been problematic in the past but it seems to have massively cleaned up its act recently and become much more education friendly. As always there are the sites that allow you to show YouTube channels without anything else on the screen such as the Firefox addon CleanTube, there is one for Chrome too!
The topics covered in the videos include:
- Watch it grow
- I want to be a scientist
- Science on the playground
- All about us (humans)
- Explore our planet
- Let’s go to space
- Awesome animals
- Scishow experiments for kids
