Apple for Educators

Apple for Educators seminar was well attended yesterday at Eynsham Hall … report as follows:

“You had a choice of curriculum / technical iPad sessions … I did the iPad curriculum session lead by @Joe_Moretti.
The focus was on free teacher tools and following free iPad apps were recommended:

  1. SHOWBIE … works as a hub for teachers to set and share class projects … unlimited storage (for 500 accounts use the promocode joemoretti when registering)
  2. …  … quick and easy way of combining text and graphics

  3. BOOK CREATOR … cracking app for creating multimedia books
  4. SOCRATIVE …  allows class contributions / responses
  5. EXPLAIN EVERYTHING …  really clever screen capture app … capture sounds & annotations to add to diagrams / pictures

I had a good play and was impressed … the Showbie app is the key to allow teachers to set and collect assignments.

Also had a quick look at KEYNOTE, PUPPET PALS and REFLECTOR as well as Apple TV.

Finally, the following scheme was mentioned …. the e7 Project is a scheme being run by Jigsaw24, that gives schools the opportunity to introduce iPads for a trial period free of charge

All good stuff and lots of food for thought! I’ll add an article for the next newsletter.
