“All Around This World is a unique, interactive global music and world cultures program for children 0-9 years old that encourages children and their families to explore the world by enjoying global music, rhythms and movement.” (All Around This World)
This site was developed by music teacher Jay Sand to teach his own children about worldwide music. The videos that he has shared freely for homeschool are great to use with a whole class and share on the whiteboard. It is very easy to interact with the videos. He introduces the song, explains what it is all about, starts everyone clapping, shares the words and encourages children to sing along to the songs that he has chosen to explore. His aim is to teach African songs through “experience, engagement and FUN.
There is a lot of paid for content available: courses, workshops CDs etc., for anyone interested but there is a whole list of free recordings of African songs to explore that are suitable for the primary classroom. Through the songs children will learn a fair bit of African history too. The complete lessons are available through Teachers pay Teachers.
All Around This World offers a real opportunity for children to learn several African songs and sing them along with Jay without their teacher being a confident music educator.
