Scholastic’s Teacher Activity Guide The Scholastic’s Teachers Activity Guide is a set of resources covering holidays and winter festivals around the world and offers lots of classroom resources, including a Winter Holidays teaching Guide. The resources cover:

  • Religious Commemorations
  • National Holidays
  • New Year Celebrations
  • Harvest Festivals.

The teacher resources explore many religions and the National Holidays also covers many countries; therefore, it may not be particularly useful at Christmas. The New Year Celebrations though may be more interesting, as we approach the new year.

The Classroom Resources are much more useful at this time of the year. There is a whole lesson plan based around winter festivals with a multitude of resources that have been created and shared.

The activities provided are:

  1. Celebrate Winter Holiday. Students explore three fun interactive scrapbooks to learn the history and traditions behind Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa.
  2. Christmas History and Traditions: A Celebrate Winter Holidays Activity. Students explore an interactive scrapbook of photos, articles, and activities to learn about the history and traditions of Christmas.
  3. Hanukkah History and Traditions: A Celebrate Winter Holidays Activity. Students explore an interactive scrapbook of photos, articles, and activities to learn about the history and traditions of Hanukkah.
  4. Kwanzaa History and Traditions: A Celebrate Winter Holidays Activity. Students explore an interactive scrapbook of photos, articles, and activities to learn about the history and traditions of Kwanzaa.

  6. Clip Art and Images: A Celebrate Winter Holidays Activity – There is a whole batch of seasonal clip art that students can use to enhance their work, the classroom, Christmas Cars, wrapping paper, Christmas labels etc.

Scholastic’s Teacher Activity Guide is a free resource and should be useful at this time of year. I especially like the thinking questions for Christmas!
