Earth Day 2016 – 22 April 2016

earth dayEarth Day is on the 22nd April 2016 and, this year, it marks 46th years of the Earth Day movement!

The main theme for this year is Trees for the Earth; they want  us to plant 7.6 billion trees over the next five years leading up to the 50th Anniversary.  The want people to join and sign the climate petitions, eat less meat and start composting. Also to stop using disposable plastic, reduce one’s footprint and buy local produce! Re technology, they want to stamp out junk e-mail and recycle all e-waste.  There have already been over 2 billion green acts and they want this to increase to three billion.

On its website it declares:

“And so it begins. Today. Right here and right now. Earth Day is more than just a single day — April 22, 2016. It’s bigger than attending a rally and taking a stand.

This Earth Day and beyond, let’s make big stuff happen. Let’s plant 7.8 billion trees for the Earth. Let’s divest from fossil fuels and make cities 100% renewable. Let’s take the momentum from the Paris Climate Summit and build on it.”(Earth Day Website)
