There is a new E-safety Support Guide available via the UK Safer Internet Centre website which is designed to help parents cope with their children’s new smart phones, games devices and other amazing little machines that give pupils’ 24 hour access to the internet.
Just before Christmas they published the really useful: “A Parents’ Guide to Technology”
There are downloadable guides for the iPhone, BlackBerry, iPod Touch, iPad, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, 3DS, DSi, and the PlayStation 3 and PSP.
Each guide looks at the capabilities of the device and help parents to set up and understand the parental controls that have been made available on the devices. There is a “Frequently Asked Questions” section which answers many parental queries about e-safety and their chosen device.
As many pupils will have received these devices as Christmas presents you may wish to publicise this website link (https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/advice-and-resources/a-parents-guide) via your school newsletter so that parents and children can study how to keep themselves safe.
